Example Dialogues
Examples of fruitful dialogue are found all over; they can be examined.
I have seen some dialogues on social media illustrating a conversation regarding a conflict. The discussion ends with resolution.
I applaud the effort of those that create these.
The conversations might seem a little corny, but some examples seem to illustrate important points.
One illustrated a good way to respond when another says something like, "I didn't realize I was doing something that people considered harmful." Clearly avoided was a response like, "Yes, you did. It is obvious. You are doing that on purpose." Instead the response affirmed that the intrusion occurred. This allows growth.
Yes, some harm is intentional. But, not all.
It is important to remember that the one playing loud music in the middle of the night might not be attacking the neighbors. This might be an insensitivity, and it might not be rooted in a self-centered disregard of neighbors. It might be negligence. This negligence might have roots in focus or coping.
Clear assertion of facts can affirm that budding realization of harm. "My sleep is broken and I start the next day in a bad mood." Of course, the one in a bad mood is responsible for that one's possible behavior. Yet, this, when said in a calmer, more friendly way, opens the door to discussion of solutions. Such as the use of headphones.
Have you seen examples in social media videos or stories like this?
Maybe we can watch out for examples. Maybe you have seen scenes in movies that involve a conversation that ended up with a positive resolution. Are some realistic? Did the writer, director and actors convince you? These might be good examples that we can point to.
Or even in novels. What conversations in your favorite books exemplify fruitful dialogue?
